Anambra State government has said that it will set up a committee to formulate a permanent solution to the challenge of gully erosion across the state.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo disclosed this while on-the-spot assessment visit to the Oko erosion site in Orumba North Local Government Area.
According to the Governor, the committee will comprise the traditional rulers, the Presidents General of town unions of the affected communities, and other critical stakeholders to discuss the possible solutions to their plight.
Also visited was the Umuchu- Iburugbu – Umunze failed portion of the road.
Speaking during the visit, Governor Soludo assured the communities that contractors will come to the site soonest for intervention work to make the road motorable during the festive season while a detailed assessment is ongoing.
Present during the visit were the member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo federal constituency and the (APGA) Candidate for Anambra South Senatorial seat in the 2023 general elections, Honourable Chris Azubuogu, Member representing Orumba North in the State House of Assembly, Honourable Emeka Afforka, Commissioner for Works, Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma, that of the Special Duties, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, his Environment counterpart, Engineer Felix Odimegwu, the Managing Director of Anambra State Erosion and Watershed Climate Change Agency Professor Phil Eze, community leaders among other stakeholders.
