A palliative work has commenced on the failed portions of New Market Road by Venne Road North-Obanye and Iboku Streets Onitsha respectively.
The palliative work, handled by the Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency ARMA, is under direct labour.
When the ABS arrived the site, it observed that drainages have been desilted while the failed portions have been scraped and replaced with mixed granite and sharp sand.
The managing director and chief executive officer of ARMA, Engineer Obinna Nduka, who stated that the project will last for two weeks, listed heavy traffic and insecurity as their major challenges and called on residents of the area and road users to avoid blocking their drainages with refuse which he described as the major cause of the collapse.
Some road users, who spoke off-camera commended the work done so far on the road and called for its replication on other failed roads across the states.
