United Business Women Association of Nigeria and Diaspora has marked its second anniversary.

 

The event, held at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Onitsha, and witnessed the installation of patron and patroness, drew women from the twenty-one local government area of the state.

United Business Women Association of Nigeria and Diaspora, is a non- governmental organization, aimed at championing the course and provision of assistance to vulnerable women in the society.

 

Declaring the event open, the chairman on the occasion, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, commended the president and founder, Ambassador Dr Stella Duru for the lofty and purposeful initiative to better the lots of women.

Mr. Ozigbo, represented by a former commissioner in the state, Mrs. Azuka Enemo, observed that women had remained an integral and fundamental part of national development, encouraging the founder for the insight in giving voice to voiceless and alleviating the plight of the downtrodden.

 

In a remark, Ambassador Dr Duru, explained that the inspiration was formed by her passion for humanity and the need to promote economic empowerment, self- reliance and ensure women’s reliance in the society.

While saying that women empowerment will not only add value, but rather, change the environment, Ambassador Dr Duru noted that the two years of their existence had rendered services to the public, through prison and hospital visitation as well as given succour to the needy.

 

Speaking, the state coordinator, Ambassador Ngozi Obiakor, noted that the association has energized the local economy and built capacities through its programmes in line with addressing the wellbeing of the poorest of the poor.

Contributing, the queen of the association, Honourable Anaka Adike, called on other women to be part of the success story.

 

In an interview, some of the awardees, including Chief Mike Obinwa and Chief Donatus Ofoedu, who thanked the association for finding them worthy, assured of collaboration with them and prayed for more positive influence.
