The Rotary Club of Awka Municipal has installed Rotarian Uchenna Ezeani as its new President.

 

The investiture ceremony, which took place in Awka, attracted government functionaries and people from various fields of endeavor, including traditional rulers.

In his inaugural speech, Rotarian Ezeani, said it was a great pleasure and privilege to be installed as the President of the club in the 2022/2023 Rotary year, and explained that Rotary International is a global network of people united in creating lasting change across the globe.

 

Rotarian Ezeani, who is the Director of Procurement, Planning, Research and Statistics Department, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, Awka, expressed his determination to foster the Four Way Test and objectives of the club, and harped on the need for restructuring of the operation of Rotary Club so people can be allowed to bring in their talents to serve humanity and not only make wealth.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Chairman, Investiture Organizing Committee, Rotarian Kanayo Obidigbo, stated that the club has recorded tremendous progress among other clubs within the district that has set moral standard in the society, and stated that if the country applies the Four Way Test of Rotary Club in all its dealings, it will not be in its current state of quagmire.

 

The Chairman on the occasion and Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu, expressed delight over the translation of the Club’s Four Way Test song to Igbo language by the club, urging members to remain committed to achieving set objectives.

He charged the nation to adopt the Four Way Test as a way of checking on how positions are handled in the country.

 

In her valedictory speech, the immediate past and pioneer President of Rotary Club of Awka Municipal, Rotarian Ifeoma Onugu, said it was a privilege serving the club in the 2021/2022 Rotary year, and called on all club members to give full support to the new leadership, even as he appreciated everyone who supported her.

 

In their remarks, the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Benneth Emeka, and his Umuawulu counterpart, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu, who com mended the charitable works of Rotary Club, urged members of the club to support their new President and pay their dues in order to keep the club moving forward.

The event featured presentation on the role of Rotarians in ensuring violence-free 2023 elections, and presentation of awards to eminent personalities for their contributions to mankind and society.

 

Notable among the award recipients include the state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Honourable Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, represented by Mrs Ifeoma Onyemaechi, his Education counterpart, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, also represented by Chief Nnaemeka Egwuonwu, a philanthropist, Ozo Ajulukwu Nzekwe, Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu.

The event, which also featured administering of oath of allegiance and office on Rotarian Ezeani, attracted the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Senatorial candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Honourable Dozie Nwankwo, APGA flag bearer for Awka South Constituency One in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr. Samuel Nwofor, and Chairman Rotary Stakeholders, Mr. Abuchi Nwozor.
