To encourage workers for increased productivity, the new Chairman of Anambra State Local Government Service Commission, Barrister Ifeanyi Ezeaka, has commenced familiarization visit to local government areas in the state.
Other board members of the commission, including Member one, Honourable Azubike Okoye, Member two, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, Member three, Professor Mrs Ngozi Ewuim, Member four, Honourable Barrister Mrs Anthonia Tabansi Okoye and Secretary of the Commission, Barrister Stan Nwattah, were part of the visit to Awka South Local Government Headquarters, Amawbia and Dunukofia Local Government Headquarters, Ukpo.
In his remark during the visit, Barrister Ezeaka, who explained that the workers are needed, and that the commission is ready to work with them to achieve objectives of Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration for the overall benefit of Ndi Anambra, said with the workers’ cooperation in making the system more productive, Governor Soludo will in return be more concerned about their welfare.
He decried truancy and absenteeism among local government workers, saying that henceforth, the commission will introduce reward and punitive measures to ensure workers put more efforts in achieving maximum productivity.
Barrister Ezeaka further announced that some revenue windows will be returned to the workers, with emphasis on prudence, reminding that people who are paid for doing nothing have social debt to pay to the society.
Describing the visit as tonic, the Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Honourable Thankgod Anagor, and his Dunukofia counterpart, Honourable Augustine Onyemaobi, noted that cooperation of local government workers will help achieve objectives of the Soludo administration, and called for improved welfare packages for the workers.
The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Comrade Ifeoma Okeke, and her Dunukofia counterpart, Comrade Ngozi Okonkwo, who pledged workers’ commitment to achieving set objectives of the Soludo administration, also called for attention to take home and other incentive packages for the workers.
