Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng, has reassured that the command will scale up meassures in tackling crime and criminality.
Mr. Echeng, who gave the assurance while parading some suspects, who allegedly committed various crimes in different parts of the state, at the command’s headquarters at Amawbia.
Mr Echeng urged residents of the state to provide security with useful and timely informatiom to enhance the on going onslaught against criminals and promised that every information will be treated with utmost confidentiality to effectively protect lives and property.
Mr. Echeng reiterated the command’s drive to ruthlessly deal with criminals.
He explained that after the criminal attack on security personnel at Isuofia, Aguata Council Area, during which four of the hoodlums were eliminated the state Police Command has equally recovered a Venza Jeep with registration number, KRD 344 BT, Lagos, from the attackers which he said they snatched at gun point on October twenty at Igbo-Ukwu, from a family travelling from Imo State, as well as two Walkie Talkie.
According to the Police Commissioner, the Ogidi Police Division busted a kidnapping and car snatching gang and arrested a male suspect, Nwozor Chukwuka, thirty-eight while an accomplice, Ifeanyi Mgboma from Nteje, but resides at Umuoji is at large.
He disclosed that the police recovered Lexus 330 SUV, an Avalon Toyota Salon Car, two Toyota Corolla and a Honda Pilot from the suspects while more suspects were arrested at the workshop of the gang at Awkuzu Community, Oyi Local Government Area and GSM Phones and plate numbers were recovered.
Mr Echeng also disclosed that on November seven, a Toyota Corolla Car with Registration number ABJ 541 DU, snatched from Mr. Ofoegbu Benard among other belongings around Enugu-Onitsha Expressway by Nkpor-Down Flyover by six armed men was recovered by the police in a Hotel at Awada, where two suspects, Success Asiegbu and Chiemerie Okeke were arrested.
He said men of ithe command also arrested Mr. Ekenedilichukwu Okeke, twenty, who in company of his friends, Peter Jideofor and Chukwumeka Christopher, murdered his step-mother, the late Mrs. Theresa Okeke, fifty-four, an Accountant with Nigerian Populations Commission, while trying to transfer one million Naira from her account.
The Police Commissioner further explained that, two-man gang, Samuel Obumneme and Malachi Chinedu were arrested for the murder of an INEC Staff and a shuttle bus driver, the late Mr. Osita Duruoha, while trying to snatching his shuttle bus from him while vandals of EEDC Cable at Nsugbe Town and Nza Village Ozubulu were equally arrested and paraded.
