The need for the government at different levels, communities, civil society organizations among others to synergize to strengthen the Anambra State primary healthcare system has been stressed.
These were the views of speakers at a press briefing organized by Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria Network led by civil society on Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition and the Anambra State Ministry of Health in Awka.
Speaking during the press briefing, the Anambra state programme officer, Civil Society for Malaria, Control, Immunization and Nutrition, Mr. Wisdom Jacob noted that the programme which has lasted about one month in Anambra goes into various communities to assess their primary healthcare centres, interview community members on how they receive medical services, identity gaps and challenges, use the information gathered to proffer solutions by engaging both the government and community members in order to strengthen the healthcare system.
The Anambra State Co-ordinator of Civil Society for Malaria, Control, Immunization and Nutrition, Miss Chioma Okeke, represented by Mr. John Ibekwe said that the gaps identified during the monitoring of primary healthcare centres will be prioritized for effective service delivery, improved accessibility, affordability and investments by communities and governments at local and State levels.
For the Anambra state Technical Specialist, Resilient Sustainable System for Health Miss Chizoba Mbanefo who represented the State Co-ordinator, urged Ndi Anambra to embrace members of the various groups each time they visit their communities in order to lift and enhance the health indices of Anambra state, as enshrined by Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration.
In their various speeches, the Anambra State Co-ordinator, Tuberculosis Network, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Unachukwu as well as the State Co-ordinator, Network of People Living with HIV/Aids, Mrs. Gladys Ezembu, urged Ndi Anambra to take full ownership of the project towards improving the State healthcare system, and equally urged the Mass Media to help in enlightening the citizenry about the activities of the group which is currently ongoing in the State.
Health correspondent Chibuzor Okoye reports that the pilot stage of the project in Anambra commenced with Anambra East, Awka South, Aguata, Dunukofia and Nnewi South Local Government Areas.
