A leadership training on how female youth leaders should define their goals, build themselves and become self-reliant has ended in Awka.
The training which was organized by one hundred Women Lobby Group, Anambra State supported by MacArthur Foundation was tagged “Engagement with Female Youth Leaders on Improving Electoral Integrity and Accountability in Nigeria Project -Women’s Political Participation.”
Addressing the participants, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Empowerment, Dr Nelson Omenugha said that leadership is all about building humanity and addressing some issues confronting the society and advised them to work hard in their chosen fields, and constantly develop themselves.
He encouraged the participants not to shy away from responsibilities and to always embrace those virtues that will propel them to positive aspects of life.
The State Co-Ordinator of one hundred Women Lobby Group, Anambra State Chapter, Mrs Ifeyinwa Unachukwu said research has shown that females are underrepresented in Nigeria’s governance, decision making and leadership space.
Mrs Unachukwu stated that it is against this backdrop that the group dimmed it necessary to train the young female leaders on the importance of having women in governance and increase sensitization on the need for the leadership skills of women to be developed from the cradle.
On her part, a resource person Miss Chidinma Oramali explained that what the young leaders need, is to build their self-esteem, have positive thinking, be focused, and avail themselves any opportunity that will improve their ideas and learning as well as believe in what they can offer the society.
While appreciating the convener, the Vice President, Students Union Government, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Miss Ifunanya Okoye said that learning from older colleagues, sharing from their experiences, ideas and progress will be a springboard for them to achieve success in life and called for the sustenance of such training.
