Palliative work is ongoing on the Ukwu Oji axis of Government House Awka road.
The intervention work is being carried out by Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency, ARMA.
Works Correspondent Ngozi Obileri monitored progress of work on the road and reports that men of Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency, ARMA were seen scrapping the old asphalt overlays on the failed portions of the road and carting them away.
Materials for reconstruction of the road were seen on one side of the road.
ARMA is also working on the failed drainages along Ukwu Aki street.
Speaking to the ABS, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ARMA, Engineer Obinna Nduka said in line with Governor Soludo’s directives that all roads in Anambra must be motorable before Christmas, they are working on various failed roads across the state to ensure that Ndi Anambra enjoy a hitch free yuletide.
He regretted that waste receptacles filled with dirts along the road was an obstacle for them as they cannot fix the portion where it was placed.
Some residents of the area including Mrs Uche Okoye and Mr Kenechukwu Onyeka said the intervention will stop unnecessary traffic on the road and aid development as according to them, good road network aids development.
