Members of Polling Unit Ambassadors of Nigeria,PUAN, Anambra State chapter, have paid a courtesy call on the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu to seek collaboration with the state-owned media house ahead of 2023 general elections.
The guests were led on the visit to the ABS corporate headquarters Awka by its States Ambassador Mr. Anthony Nnebedum.
Polling Unit Ambassadors of Nigeria is a non-governmental organization registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and accredited by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as domestic observer monitoring elections in Nigeria.
The organization was involved in monitoring the last governorship election held in Anambra State.
Addressing the ABS boss, the Director of Audit, PUAN, Anambra State chapter, Mr. Emmanuel Okeke, congratulated Sir Chido on his appointment as the Managing Director of ABS, noting that the organisation’s aims include promoting transparency and accountability in governance, educating and encouraging the electorate and advocating strategies for peaceful and participatory democracy.
He further explained that the association wants to strengthen its partnership with the ABS in the areas of mass orientation and mobilization, which he said will help to educate, encourage, mobilize, train and support the electorate on their civic responsibilities.
The Director, Contact and Mobilization of the organization in the South East, Engineer Okwuchukwu Ogbuwuko, as well as the Anambra State Gender Ambassador of PUAN Stellamaris Oguguo, said they present credible reports to INEC after monitoring elections; in line with international best practices.
Responding, Sir Chido assured members of Polling Unit Ambassadors of Nigeria of the collaboration of the establishment, stating that elections make fundamental contributions to democratic governance.
The ABS boss tasked the organization to brainstorm on critical issues surfacing during elections, including vote buying, diaspora voting, violence, thuggery, among others.
