Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Information and Culture has called for adequate funding of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, to encourage optimum performance.
The committee made the call during bilateral interaction between them and officials of the state Ministry of Information on the 2023 budget estimate of the ministry held at the legislative complex in Awka.
House of Assembly Correspondent,Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that a member of the committee and member representing Ogbaru Two Constituency, Sir Somtochukwu Udeze, while making the call lauded ABS for making itself a prime brand and for communicating government activities to the people in a professional way.
He noted that adequate funding of the establishment by the state government will enable it meet certain needs and generate huge revenue for the government.
On his part, another member of the committee and Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Sir Emeka Aforka, urged the executive arm of government to invest heavily in the Ministry of Information to enable it discharge duties creditably, even as he assured that the committee will partner the ministry and all parastatals under it to secure all they need to do more in 2023.
While presenting an overview of the budget estimate of the ministry for 2023, the state Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu, informed the committee that provision was made in the budget to revamp ABS station in Onitsha, which he said is functioning with obsolete equipment.
Sir Paul, who described the ABS station in Onitsha as the hub of commercial activities in the city, maintained that equipping it with all necessary equipment will help staff serve government and the people of Anambra State efficiently.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency, Mr. Tony Ujubuonu, has told the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Information that the agency is committed to rolling out its digital platform in 2023; to make businesses easier for Ndi Anambra.
Mr. Ujubuonu, who revealed that ANSAA is central in helping Governor Chukwuma Soludo achieve a digitally-driven state, maintained that the agency is poised to increase its level of support to businesses in the state; giving the level of programmes they have for the business owners.
