Igbo Ambassadors, United Kingdom in collaboration with a non-governmental organization, Hungry and Angry has given a beggar, Mrs. Ifechukwu Ileogu, mother of eight, a chance to life.

 

Mrs. Ileogu, thirty-eight and from Ihiala Community in Ihiala Local Government Area, has been living in the streets for four years with her four children after her husband’s relations chased them away from their home, accusing her of killing her husband.

Mrs. Ileogu, fatherless, with her remaining children and her visually impaired mother, rejected by her husband’s family and her father’s family had no choice than to end up in the streets.

 

It was at their shelter in the streets that the Coordinator of Hungry and Angry, Dr. Chido Ajuorah, saw her, made a video of her and her children, uploaded it on the social media and it caught the attention of Igbo Ambassadors, UK, which stepped in and gave them a chance to life.

The Igbo Ambassadors UK rented a one-bedroom flat for them, got her two children aged eight and four enrolled in school for the first time in their lives, provided clothing, food, medical package and a paid care-giver to be assisting them in domestic chores because of the mental state of Mrs. Ileogu presently.

 

In an interview, Mrs. Ileogu recounted the story of her life since her husband’s death, feeding from the refuse bins throughout the pregnancy of her last two months twin babies, living without shelter and any form of income until they were pulled out of the streets by the NGOs.

She, alongside her two children, Tochukwu and Mmasichukwu, expressed their gratitude to the two NGOs saying that it is only God that can reward them.

 

In his remark, the President, Igbo Ambassadors UK, Dr. Ugochukwu Mora, who said that the body is a social cultural Igbo organization established to support the welfare and businesses of Igbos in UK, explained that they are launching a fifth million dollars charity project to take all children in the South East Nigeria out of the streets.

For the chairman, Welfare Committee, Igbo Ambassadors UK, Ambassador Chukwudi Anasonwu, the aims and objectives of the group ficus on promoting the welfare of Igbos in the diaspora and Nigeria by doing charity works.

 

On his part, Dr. Ajuorah, who explained that his organization’s objective is Community Support Initiative, assured that the rehabilitation programme for the woman and her children will be sustained, and commended the Igbo Ambassadors UK for their sponsorship.

 

Also speaking, the Community Welfare Officer of the NGO, Mr. Samuel Aghadinuno, explained that the pressure group which began four years ago is a community right activist and watchdog involved in several community projects to make life better for everyone.

 

Others, who spoke, including Mr. Christian Nwabueze, Miss Nkechi Chinenye, Lady Tochukwu Dimelu and Mrs. Christiana Oneh, applauded the gesture describing it as laudable.

 

Highlight of the event was unveiling of the furnished and stocked rented apartment.
