The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, Mr. Ossy Onuko, says the livable and prosperous homeland Governor Chukwuma Soludo promised to Ndi Anambra starts with adhering strictly to the rule of law, as well as construction codes and guidelines.
Mr. Onuko disclosed this at Ifite Awka during an enforcement against improper channeling of drainage system, which poses threats to the street and people living within the vicinity.
Mr. Onuko frowned at the rate at which reckless buildings that impede development spring up in that axis, and restated his commitment to making Awka Capital Territory a befitting capital city by ensuring that people comply with rules and regulations guiding building constructions.
He said that Ifite Awka is becoming the fastest growing slums in the South East, but promised that his agency is ready to help the people of the area have a breath of fresh air.
The ACTDA Head of Development Control Unit, Mr. Charles Ekwunife, wondered why developers would deceive the authority by presenting a very good drawing for approval, only for them to go contrary to such approval.
In his remark, the Student Union Government, SUG, President of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Comrade Charles Obinna-Ijeomah, commended the swift response of the state government and ACTDA in coming to the aid of students residing around the area, and described the actions of some landlords in the area as selfish, appealing to the state government to do a palliative work on of Ifite road for easy human and vehicular movement.
ACTDA authority later levelled some stones and sands dumped on the road by some reckless developers, and opened up some blocked drainages along Amawbia express road for easy flow of water
