Governor Chukwuma Soludo has promised that his administration will foster community unity, peace and progress at all times.
Governor Soludo gave the assurance when he presented the Igwe- Elect of Umuomaku community, Chief Livinus Ezenwa with a certificate of recognition at the Executive chamber, Government House, Awka.
Umuomaku is a community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Governor Soludo while performing the function reassured that his administration is committed to unity, peace and progress of communities in Anambra State and promised that the state government will not interfere with the unique process of selecting traditional rulers, insisting that the duty of government is to ensure transparency and to recognize anyone unanimously chosen by the people of the community.
He said that the interest of the people should override any individual interest and encouraged the newly elected Igwe to lead the people with truth maintaining that his administration will not accommodate any form of distraction or attempt by anyone to challenge any duly elected leadership at the community level and also asked the people of Umuomaku to support their traditional ruler to enable him to deliver.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters, Mr Tony-Colins Nwabunwanne in his address said that Umuomaku rulership crisis which has lasted for years was the first to be resolved under Governor Soludo and maintained the resolve to restore peace in all communities with functional leadership, even as he revealed that the Umuomaku election was peaceful as the people made their choice through open ballot .
Chief Livinus Ezenwa, the newly elected Traditional Ruler of Umuomaku after receiving his certificate of recognition thanked Governor Soludo for his commitment towards building a livable and prosperous Anambra State and assured to make the community peaceful and progressive.
He thanked the people of Umuomaku for their support and urged them to join hands with him to achieve a better Umuomaku.
The Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Prince Neville Uchendu expressed happiness with the development and said that Orumba South is committed to strategic progress adding that sustainable peace and unity at the community levels will play a major role in the development of the council.
The Deputy Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Sunday Okafor of Okpuno, Igwe Ben Emeka of Umueri, President General of Umuomaku, Sir Augustine Chukwuekezie, the All Progressives Grand Alliance Candidate for Orumba North and South Federal Constituency in the forthcoming general election, Chief Eric Ezeh, the Chief of staff to the Governor, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, Secretary to the state government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu among other critical stakeholders attended the function.
