The Bishop on the Niger, the Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo has ordained eight new priests and charged them to bring more souls to Christ.
During the advent ordination which took place at the Basilica of St. Andrew, Onitsha, and attracted people from far and near, Bishop Nwokolo expressed joy that more labourers have been added to work in the Lord’s vineyard and urged the newly ordained priests to be faithful and trustworthy.
Earlier before the ordination, the new priests made declarations and took oaths of canonical obedience, submission and allegiance to God while the bishop gave them Bible, paten and chalice as the sign of authority to preach the Gospel of Christ and minister His Holy Sacraments.
In a sermon during the ordination, the Bishop of Offa Diocese, Right Reverend Solomon Akanbi who centered his message on “Called to Be a Faithful Servant” noted that the message is not for the clergy alone but for everybody and urged the new priests to be faithful and productive as well as be the light to the world.
The wife of Bishop on the Niger, Dr. Elsie Nwokolo advised wives of the Ministers to assist their husbands, take care of their children and be a mother to the entire flock entrusted unto their care.
Speaking on behalf of the newly ordained priests, Rev. Ifeanyi Udealor said that they will work towards the advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Staff reporter Oggorchukwu Oranu reports that litany for the ordination, signing of the declaration and oaths by the new priests, prayers and thanksgiving climaxed the event.
