College of Nursing Sciences, Saint Charles’ Borromew Specialist Hospital, Onitsha, has held its maiden convocation for sets 2017, 2018 and 2019 graduands at the college convocation ground.

 

In a sermon during a Holy Mass to commemorate the event, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, said that the aim of building the institution was to train nurses that will be of finest quality and sought after worldwide, expressing joy that the graduands scored one hundred percent in their Nursing and Midwifery Council Examinations which according to him, was a testimony of hard work.

Archbishop Okeke, who is also the proprietor of the college, charged student nurses to join the culture of excellence and disclosed that some students of the college are studying in parts of Europe on scholarship as they look forward for partnerships with United States and others.

 

The Manager of the College, Reverend Father Fidelis Nwanze, who recounted the successes recorded in the school within a short time, thanked the Archbishop for giving them the very best to groom the nurses.

Reverend Father Nwanze advised the graduands to be good ambassadors of the college anywhere they may find themselves.

 

In a welcome address, the Provost, Dr. Henrietta Okedo, solicited for assistance from well-meaning individuals and government to enable them procure one hundred and fifty laptops for teaching and other logistics as recommended by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

Dr. Mrs. Peace Iheanacho from the Department of Nursing Sciences, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, gave a convocation lecture on “Transition from Student Life to Professional Working Life: Prospects and Challenges”.

 

Some of the graduands, including Mary Cynthia Iloegbunam and John Nwakonobi, expressed happiness for passing through the college pledging to remain good ambassadors of their alma mater.

The event featured presentation of certificates to the graduands by the coordinator, Health Services of Onitsha Archdiocese, Very Reverend Father Basil Ekwunife, Nurses anthem, cutting of cake, recognition of best brains and valedictory speech by the best graduating student, Kosisochukwu Nweke.
