The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA Onitsha Branch, has wrapped up its 2022 Law Week with a thanksgiving mass at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha.

 

The 2022 Law week with the theme: The Nigerian Lawyer: Overcoming Challenges to Successful Legal Practice in Fast Changing Socio-Political Economy, kicked off on Wednesday sixth December 2022 with prison visit, football competition, lectures, visit to sick and elderly lawyers, cocktail and dinner night among others.

Addressing lawyers at the Sir Loius Mbanefo Bar Centre, High Court Premises Onitsha,the state Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, charged them to make integrity their watch word.

Speaking to ABS, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Zone Thirteen Ukpo, Vivan Aworonye and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Onyechi Ononye, who disclosed that litigation process was part of the issues discussed, lamented that some cases last up to twenty to sixty years and encouraged lawyers to adopt other ways of settling issues like the arbitration process which has more advantage than taking cases to court.

They charged lawyers to be at their best always despite being faced with economic and insecurity challenges.

 

On their parts, the chairman, NBA Onitsha, Mazi Uba, the vice chairman, Margret Oputa and a senior lawyer, Dr. Eloka Chukwuma, while appreciating God for the success of the week, described it as a period to re-examine the rule of law, its compliance and how government, cooperate bodies and individuals respect it.

The law week featured presentation of award to outstanding members of the bench and Bar.
