It was an atmosphere of colours, excitement and cultural display at Omor, Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra state, as Igwe Oranu Chidume marked his 2022 Ofala festival in grand style.
The Palace of the traditional ruler which played host to dignitaries from far and near, who gathered to witness the Ofala festival, went into frenzy when the traditional ruler, Igwe Chidume stepped out, accompanied by youths of the community who dressed in war apparel in a procession round the arena in jubilation.
In his remark, Igwe Chidume emphasized that Omor as an agrarian community is endowed with rich cultural heritage, which the Ofala festival apart from cementing the bond among community members , also showcases the culture of the community to friends of the community and the world.
He noted that the community through self-help projects has provided amenities for themselves and are currently focusing on ‘Girl Child Education Project’ to educate and empower the girl child against the back-drop of early marriage.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Ify Obinabo who graced the occasion explained that culture is unique and confers identity on people, commending the traditional ruler for his laudable initiative for the girl child and women.
In their remarks, Igwe Michael Idigo, the traditional ruler of Aguleri and Chief Lawrence Anikpe a friend of the community said it was beautiful witnessing the rich cultural heritage of Omor at the festival, while Chief Anthony Chidume the younger brother to the Igwe of Omor and Chief Chukwuka Okonkwo, another friend of the community prayed for the long reign of the king on the throne.
The event was attended by the Speaker of Anambra state House of Assembly, Right Honorable Uche Okafor, the traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, wife of the former Governor of Anambra state, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, and former Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr. Uchenna Okafor and host of others.
