As part of activities to mark the 2022 Ofala festival of the traditional ruler of Omor community in Ayamelum Local Government Area of the state,Igwe Chris Chidume has honoured six illustrious sons of the area have been honored with prestigious ‘ozo’ titles.
The glamorous event, which took place at the Igwe’s palace, Omor, provided opportunities for various cultural groups, age grades, religious organizations, schools, families and individuals in the community and beyond to pay homage to Igwe Chidume.
As early as noon , Omor community was agog with funfare, and people who thronged the Igwe’s palace in continuation of the festival could not hold back jubilation; as Igwe Chidume and his entourage made their way into the ofala arena.
Beautifully colored masquerades like ‘akwuchukwu’, ‘sojar’ ‘ijele’, as well as traditional dancers entertained spectators at the expansive palace filled with people, and as various groups trouped in and out of the palace after paying homage to the king, children who could not hold their joy were seen struggling to catch a glimpse of all activities going on.
Also in that sunny afternoon, men, women, the young and old who were adorned in beautiful attires and cultural dance costumes were seen swirling to the rhythms of drums and other musical instruments that entertained who is who in the area.
Performing the ceremony, Igwe Chidume said for a community to have any meaningful development, the people must remain together in order to take the community to greater heights, adding that those honored with chieftaincy titles were scrutinized and found to be deserving of such honor.
He called on government at all levels to see the potential of the community where people are predominantly farmers, and maintained that if government would harness the potential of people of the area by ensuring infrastructural development, issues of food scarcity would be reduced to the lowest minimum.
Igwe Chidume disclosed that he has greater prospects for Omor people, and that in few years coming, the community will be a place where basic and social amenities are provided.
In their speeches, some of the new Ozo tittle recipients, including Ozo Peter Emeka and Ozo Joseph Okonkwo, who expressed gratitude to the king, promised to be on the side of truth, justice and equity at all times, and to use their positions to foster development in Omor community.
The head of Ndi Ozo Omor, Ozo Obiekezie Udemezue, and a member of the Igwe’s cabinet, Chief Paul Egwuatu, described the 2022 Ofala festival as the best so far in the history of the community, and thanked Igwe Chidume for positive transformations in the community.
The 2022 Ofala festival of Igwe Omor started on sixteenth December 2022, and would be concluded today after a thanksgiving mass.
