Anambra State Government says it is committed to transparent and peaceful town union elections in the state.

 

The state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Collins Nwabunwanne, stated this when some stakeholders from Ebenebe community in Awka North Local Government Area visited his office at the Government House Awka; to deliberate on how to resolve their town union issues.

 

Addressing the Stakeholders after listening to their submissions on issues at stake, Commissioner Nwabunwanne advised them to go home and conduct a free, credible and transparent election; as they earlier did in their Igweship selection; where they chose a candidate based on laid down rules.

 

He reminded them that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is passionate about ensuring that peace returns to all warring communities in the state, and assured them of a town union election devoid of rancour and acrimony, and which will be conducted and supervised; according to the laid down rules and regulations of the ministry; in order to achieve peace and stability in the community.

 

In his remark, the traditional ruler of Ebenebe community, Igwe Christopher Nnaegbuna, who recounted laid down procedures the town has been conducting town union election, expressed willingness to ensure that things are done the right way for peace to reign in the community.

 

In their separate speeches, the President General of the community, Mr. Paul Nnatuanya, Youth leader, Mr Chima Adu, and others, including Canon Ferdinand Okoye, Prophet Ndubuisi Okeke, Mr Alloysious Ngene and Chief Cletus Ajuorah, supported the policy of rotating the position of the President General of the community on the basis of village seniority, and called on those still aggrieved to consider the interest of the community.

 

In his vote of thanks, an illustrious son of Ebenebe community, Chief Emma Okenna, appreciated the Soludo administration for its commitment in restoring peace and stability in warring communities in the state, and promised that members of the community will abide by all laid down rules and regulations during the election.
