Security agents and traffic management officials manning different roads in Anambra state have been warned to desist from any act that can lead to unnecessary gridlock this yuletide.
The Deputy Governor of Anambra , Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim gave the warning when he visited some strategic junctions in Awka and its environs, including the Amawbia Flyover, Akwata Flyover and Amansea junction, where he dismantled checkpoints mounted by men of the Nigerian Army in the area who according to road users cause heavy gridlock on the highway from morning till the visit of the Deputy Governor to the scene in the evening.
Government House Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that Deputy Governor Ibezim who said he was disheartened by his experience at the junctions visited, warned security agents against acts that could cause preventable holdups on the state’s routes, pointing out that they are at the checkpoints to ensure safety of the people and not to cause hardship to them.
The Deputy Governor said that the Professor Chukwuma Soludo administration is working on daily bases to ensure that Ndi Anambra have a hitch free Christmas and new year celebrations, and according to him, no one will be allowed to truncate that target.
Some of the road users who narrated their experience on the road to the ABS, including Messrs Barnabas Okoronkwo and Chris Chikwelu Junior thanked the Deputy Governor Ibezim for coming to their aid as they had been on the traffic for over five hours before his intervention, and called on the government and security agencies to call the officers to order and save road users the untold hardship on the road.
For Mr Kingsley Anagolu, the security personnel on the road are really trying for the road users, as they are creditably discharging their duties on the routes, but pleaded that they should while discharging their duties, lessen people’s sufferings by diligently managing traffic and their responsibilities.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency, Engineer Emeka Okonkwo and Special Adviser to the Governor on Security who is also the Coordinator of the Anambra State Joint Taskforce Team, Retired Air Vice Marshall Ben Chiobi, later joined the Deputy Governor on the decongestion exercise at the Amansea junction.
