As part of moves to ensure HIV/AIDS epidemic control during the yuletide, the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), has commenced a three-day free HIV testing services and sensitization in five selected local government areas of the state.

The sensitization will also feature talks on gender-based violence.

The selected LGAs include Awka South, Njikoka, Anambra East, Nnewi North and Onitsha North.

The Executive Director of ANSACA, Mr. Johnbosco Ementa, who spoke during a visit to one of the designated testing centres in Onitsha, encouraged the people especially traders to seize the opportunity to know their HIV status using the HIV Self-Test Kit which is another diagnostic kit that complements other HIV Test kits.

The kit provides one the opportunity of doing the HIV test and interpreting the result within twenty minutes in one’s home or other private locations without involving a third party.

He condemned the rate at which people living with HIV/AIDS are being stigmatized and stated that it is a crime to discriminate against anyone on account of his or her HIV status.

Mr. Ementa also stated the importance of ending gender-based violence at every level of the society, insisting that one of the first steps to achieving a developed society is by pulling down every wall of inequality and limited opportunities.
