The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province Most Reverend Valerian Okeke has appealed to the federal government particularly the Correctional Centre authorities to hasten approval of the multi-million Naira skill acquisition centre erected by the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha at the federal Correctional Centre, Onitsha, so that activities of learning various skills by the inmates will commence in earnest.

Archbishop Okeke made the appeal in his remarks during his annual Christmas celebration with inmates and staff of the Onitsha Correctional Centre at the facility.

According to the Archbishop, while the new skill acquisition centre is already at the completion stage, there is need for the federal authorities to issue a “note of consent and approval as well as contribute” to the perimeter fencing of the new edifice.

The Archbishop said it is his desire that while operational, the skill acquisition centre will equip the inmates with something useful to do when released from incarceration.

Earlier while delivering his homily, Archbishop Okeke reminded Christians that whoever is celebrating Christmas has a share in the light of God.

According to him, Christ has elevated humanity to share in the divinity of Christ such that if anyone admits Christ, he becomes part of the light of Christ.
