It was a display of tradition, colour, and the cultural heritage of Ajalli community in Orumba North Local Government Area as the people of the area celebrated the 2022 Ajalli Day in grand style.

 

The event held at the Government School field Ajalli was a sight to behold as illustrious sons and daughters of the community both home and abroad converged on the arena to witness the ceremony.

The event attracted different entertainment groups including Ohafia dance troupe and Ojojo dance group by Umuada Ajalli, displaying scintillating dance steps and rendering great songs.

 

The the venue was filled to capacity as hundreds of men, women and children danced to the beat of traditional drums, while assorted masquerades including the Ijele and Enyi thrilled the audience.

As the traditional ruler, Igwe Augustine Nwangwu accompanied by members of t cabinet made their way into the arena , ceremonial gunshots were fired into the air and the community members were excited to celebrate the 2022 Ajalli celebration with their new monarch after over seventeen years without a king.

 

The ceremony earlier started with a novelty match between Oko and Ekwulobia branches versus Ajalli branch in the female category.

Igwe Nwangwu who said he was overwhelmed with joy to celebrate the event after over seventeen years without a king , assured to continue to entrench peace and walk through the path of light, while revealing that the community is going through processes of renaissance of age-long tradition and reinventions.

 

In an address by the President-General, Ajalli Welfare Union, Engineer Ejike Okoli, the event offered them opportunity to thank God for various interventions in the community and encouraging the people to promote the culture of their community, calling for collective efforts in actualizing the dream of the town.

Also speaking, the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, Sir Ogochukwu Ekwueme, said the event availed opportunity to promote the Igbo culture and tradition, urging the community to keep pushing the Igbo culture to the global map.

 

On their parts, the President, Umuada Ajalli, Deaconess Ihuoma Okoli and Secretary of Igwebuike Age Grade in the community, Mr. Godwin Onwuchekwa, said it is a thing of joy celebrating the event, expressing happiness that the Ndi Ajalli are reviving their normal way of life.

 

Some members of the community who spoke to the ABS in separate interviews including, Engineer Chidi Orji, Mr. Ononuju Oti, Mr. Anayo Nwankwo, Mr. Greg Nwankwo, Mr. Chikodi Orji and Mrs Ngozi Orji, expressed joy over the event and commended the state government for providing an enabling environment for such an occasion to take place.

 

Launching of the Ajalli Day 2022 brochure climaxed the event.
