“The song is ended but the melody lingers” summarizes the reason the Umeoji family of Aku village, Ezinifite, Aguata Local Government Area, launched the Honourable Sir Andy and Lady Ngozi Umeoji Foundation; to continue the charitable works their late parents were known for.
The late Honourable Sir Andy and Lady Ngozi Umeoji were the parents of Dr Adaora Umeoji of Zenith Bank, Honourable Chukwuma Umeoji, lawmaker representing Aguata federal constituency, Engineer Boss Umeoji and others.
The launching of the foundation commenced with the screening of over three thousand less privileged people from within and outside Ezinifite community.
Speaking to journalists at the event, Honourable Umeoji, who is the first son of the late Honourable Sir Andy and Lady Ngozi Umeoji, explained that they floated the foundation to sustain their late parents’ legacy of helping the needy in the community.
He noted that the assistance to be given are categorized into four to include medical assistance, employment, scholarship and cash empowerment for business owners, adding that the most essential to him is the free medical assistance because of sicknesses affecting people in the community, and their lack of funds to take care of their medical bills.
For the last born of the family, Boss, the Umeoji amily has enough provision to take care of as many people as possible that will seek the assistance of the foundation.
He also encouraged those that came to remain prayerful, shun rancour and be kind to one another, saying that these were some of the virtues their late parents were known for
Also speaking, the coordinator of the foundation, Reverend Father Reuben Nwankwo, explained the screening process would-be beneficiaries at the event went through to ascertain their areas of need, after which they will be given the needed assistance.
Some of the would-be beneficiaries, Miss Chukwuemelie Umeogo, Mrs Susanne Umeogbu and Mr. Boniface Ezeudu, praised the Umeoji family for their philanthropic works; which they said have spanned over the years, and prayed God to continue to bless them.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, South East zone led by one of its officials, Mrs Ebele Ugwu, has brought relief material to vulnerable people in Ezinifite community.
President-General of Ezinifite Improvement Union, Nze Ikemefuna Ogbonna, received the items; which include several ten-kilogram bags of rice, beans, garri, cartons of tomatoes, spices, sanitary material, mats, salt and soaps.
