The saying that a great soul never dies rather it brings people together came to the fore during the thanksgiving mass in memory of Lady Ngozi Umeoji as it drew people from all walks of life who benefited from the deceased’s generosity.
The Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, Peter Cardinal Okpaleke, led other Bishops and clergy in the six months memorial mass held at the late Honurable Andy Umeoji’s compound, Aku village, Ezinifite in Aguata Local Government Area.
In a homily, the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Most Reverend Godfrey Onah who said that the event coincided with the feast of Solemnity of Mother of God which dwelt on the Holy Family of Joseph, Mary and Jesus recalled the tensions of the Holy Family, stressing that no family is without a challenge.
Most Reverend Onah said that in spite of the challenges the family is important as it is a place where values are transmitted silently to the children noting that the deceased transmitted her generosity to her children and prayed that their good deeds will inspire others to do more for the benefit of the society.
The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor in an interview,noted that the late Lady Ngozi Umeoji contributed a lot to the growth of the church and left many legacies and appealed to the family to follow the legacies of their late parents and commended the children for establishing a Non-Governmental Organization in their memory.
The member representing Aguata Federal Constituency, at the National Assembly Honourable Chukwuma Umeoji who is the first son of the deceased, said their parents tutored them to understand that people are suffering and give them assistance without expecting anything in return which according to him, is the foundation of charity adding that the family will continue to expand the charity work as nothing given to the society is too much considering the situation of the country.
The traditional ruler of Ezinifite, Igwe Bob-Orji, that of Enugwu Umuonyia, Igwe Peter Ezeamama and the deceased daughter in-law, Lady Ijeoma Umeoji all gave good testimonies of the deceased legacies.
Ogochukwu Oranu who covered the event reports that prayers and blessing of the deceased grave as well as thanksgiving featured during the memorial mass.
