It was pomp and pageantry in Awka as the Traditional Ruler of Awka Obi, Gibson Nwosu holds Egwu Uzu, 2022.
The twelfth Egwu Uzu ceremony took place at Awka Civic center, Awka.
Egwu Uzu 2022 of Obi Gibson Nwosu also marked his twenty fourth year on the throne.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo graced the occasion which also attracted an oil magnet Engineer Arthur Ezeh, the Minister of Transportation Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, the Comptroller of Immigration, Anambra state, Mrs. Ngozi Odikpo, Senator Ben Ndy -Obi of Awka, the Chairman Nigeria United Airlines, Chief Obiora Okonkwo and many others .
Represented by his deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Governor Soludo paid homage to Obi Gibson Nwosu during the ceremony.
In his welcome address delivered by the Traditional Prime Minister of Awka, Chief Ben Okoye, Obi Nwosu commended Governor Soludo for the tremendous work he is doing in Anambra state and for appointing Awka indigens into his cabinet as well as attending the installation of the new Otochalu Awka recently.
Obi Nwosu said that Egwu Uzu is a time when people of Awka come together, do some stock taking, celebrate the rich culture of Awka people and seek ways of improving the status of their town, appealing to him to pay more attention to the capital city by intervening on the road feeder roads in the city so as to put them in better shape befitting a state capital.
Earlier in an opening remark, the chairman on the occasion, Chief Obiora Okonkwo who is the Chairman Nigeria United Airlines, recalled that the art work on the gate of the king of England was constructed by an Awka indigene, even during the days of the late Queen Elizabeth, and stressed the need for every igbo community to go back to what they are known for like, Awka is known for blacksmithing saying that when properly harnessed, it will boost socio economic development of the area.
On his part, Mr Abuchi Nwozor of the ABS and a native of Awka, went down memory lane on how Obi Nwosu served two kings until the throne rested on his head, praying God to bless him with long life in good health as he pilots the affairs of the community.
Five prominent Ndi Anambra were given chieftaincy titles while Awka king makers and the Otochalu Awka were also present.
The Traditional Prime Minister Chief Okoye late performed symbolic act of blacksmithing to the admiration of all.
Ijele masquerade and other masquerades danced at the event.
