The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Dr. Joe Akabuike says plans are on top gear for the hospital to begin sickle cell clinic to carter for those living with sickle cell anemia.

Dr. Akabuike made this known when a nongovernmental organization that cares for children living with sickle cell anemia paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

 Dr. Akabuike extolled the organisation for its passion and doggedness towards the challenged children.

The COOUTH CMD equally promised that the management of the hospital will support them by commencing a sickle cell clinic in the hospital to help in ameliorating their pains, even as he called for all hands to be on deck in supporting children living with sickle cell anemia in Anambra state.

Earlier during the courtesy visit, Mrs Chinwe Nnagbo who led the children to the visit said that the visit was to familiarize with Dr. Akabuike in order to start visiting the hospital every first Monday of the month for the children’s medical check-up.

She said that the aim of the foundation is to put smiles on the faces of children with sickle cell and l encourage them by providing some drugs like astymin, parodying, folic acid, vitamin E among others and pleaded with the CMD to facilitate the commencement of sickle cell clinic as it will go a long way to ease their burden.
