Modozaic FC has won the twenty-third Abagana Unity Championship for 2023.
Modoziac FC defeated Diamond Lady FC 1:0 at the finals to lift the cup.
The tournament, sponsored by Abagana Youths Association, Lagos Branch, was played at Igwebuike Primary School field, Abagana, Njikoka Council Area.
The tournament is aimed at promoting unity among the youths of the community and channeling their minds towards positive living in the society.
The championship according to available records has produced international and local players since its commencement.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the finals of the tournament, a stakeholder in the community, Sir Obi Okechukwu, regretted that many youths are losing focus in today’s society but with such programmes, their potential will be harnessed while their minds will be off from social vices.
In their separate speeches, the sponsor of Diamond Lady FC, Mr and Mrs Bartholomew Akpuaka, expressed satisfaction with the performance of their team, promising that they will continue to encourage the team to become better.
On his part, the President, Abagana Youths Association, Lagos Branch, Sir Peter Igboaka said through sports, they seek to promote togetherness, unity, love and to help the youths achieve their dreams and talents.
Another indigene of the community, Mr Humphrey Ilo who is also the flag bearer of the Labour Party for Njikoka Two State Constituency said the championship is a tradition in their community, stating that the Unity Cup has moulded and nurtured many young people in the community.
The winners, Modozaic FC, went home with five hundred-thousand-naira cash prize while Diamond lady FC who came second went home with three hundred thousand naira.
Lion FC also went home with two hundred thousand naira after emerging third in the tournament.
An indigene of the community, Sir Obi Okechukwu who is the National Auditor, Peoples Democratic Party, appreciated the players with One Hundred thousand naira for first position, seventy thousand for second position and fifty thousand for the third position.
