Amawbia Community in Awka South Local Government Area is seeking government partnership on production of organic fertilizers; in line with public, community, private partnership model of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration.

A delegation from the community led by Chief Victor Oye made the plea when they paid a courtesy visit to the Governor at his lodge in Amawbia.

The fertilizer project was initiated under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, where the federal government was supposed to provide needed equipment and expertise and the state government was to build the structure, while the community will provide the land, but unfortunately, the project was stalled.

Speaking about the project, the President General of Amawbia Town Union, Chief Godwin Aronu, explained that the project was truncated and never commissioned, pointing out that the project is soil friendly, and that it will help in timely provision of fertilizer to the South East.

He stated that the community has people who are ready to sponsor the project if the state government removes the encumbrances.

Chief Aronu applauded the Governor’s strategy in fundamentally prioritizing security, as well as efforts in waste disposal and management, among other numerous others.

Earlier, Chief Oye, who is also the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, explained that the voting pattern of the community proves their love for the Governor, pledging their support to his government.

Responding, Governor Soludo, who appreciated their support, said that part of his administration’s principal objective is on partnerships, assured of readiness to partner with the community.

The Governor further explained that the reason his government harps on public, community, private partnership model is because ninety-eight percent of the revenue are in the hands of the private sector, noting that he understands that the social contract between government and the people had broken down, assuring that his team is working hard to rebuild trust by ensuring that resources they get are transparently managed.

The Governor, who recalled the Neni and Oraukwu community development development models , stated that while his administration is maximizing resources, it is also calling on communities to strengthen the social contract partnerships, stressing that there must be minimum standards on development.

Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, the member representing Awka South Two Constituency, Mr. Chukwuma Okoye, Commissioner for Special Duties, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, former Minister for Women Affairs, Iyom Josephine Aninih, among others, attended the event.
