The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has sensitize traders at Onitsha Main Market and the general public on the redesigned naira notes.

 

The team, led by the state Controller, CBN Awka, Mr. Benedict Maduagwu, while addressing the market executive and traders, said the sensitization will enable the public have an open mind with regards to the redesigned naira notes.

Mr. Maduagwu pointed out that the old one thousand, five hundred- and two-hundred-naira notes will seize to be legal tender by January thirty-one, 2023.

 

Speaking further, he said the CBN has directed all banks to stuck their ATMs with the redesigned notes while customers deposit the old notes over the counter on or before January thirty-one, 2023.

Speaking to the ABS, the state Director, National Orientation Agency, Barrister Charles Nworji, cautioned the public to stop rejecting the redesigned notes as it is an offence to reject a legal tender issued by the federal government.

On his part, the chairman, Onitsha Main Market, Chief Ikechukwu Ezeoha, appreciated the CBN for taking the sensitization to the market while appealing that the redesigned notes be made available to banks.

 

Men of the Nigerian Police Force, personnel of commercial banks among others were on ground for the sensitization.
