The Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma has charged communities to take responsibilities for the security of contractors and equipment sent to work in their various communities.

The Commissioner gave the directive in his office when he had meetings with Stakeholders and Community leaders from Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Mr. Okoma frowned at a situation where a construction company sent to construct a road in Ogbaru was attacked by hoodlums and their Hilux vehicle hijacked from them and warned that government will not hesitate to shut down any of the project sites where security of the construction workers and equipment are being threatened.

According to the Commissioner, the Government of Professor Chukwuma Soludo is interested in opening up of Ogbaru because of its strategic location which also leads to the industrial hub in Ozubulu, Oil Wells at Ogwuaniocha and Ogwuikpele, as well as the agricultural potential of the area.

He said that government needs commitment from all the Traditional Rulers, Town Union Presidents, Chairmen of the Local Governments and Stakeholders where the roads are passing and that they will take responsibility for the security of the contractors, consultants, everyone involved in the discharge of their duties and also their equipment.

In their separate responses, the member representing Ogbaru Two Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Somto Udeze, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Mr. Pascal Aniegbonam, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate for Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu expressed disappointment over the maltreatment of the Contractor and promised that such will never repeat itself again and thanked governor Soludo for his numerous developmental strides in Ogbaru.
