The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in collaboration with IFAD Assisted Value Chain Development Programm, has organized a three-day training workshop on good Agricultural practices for 2022-2023 dry season Rice farmers in Anambra State.
The training workshop was purely for Rural Poor Stimulus Facilities, RPSF, and the 2022-2023 Dry Season Rice farmers in Anambra State under IFAD VCDP.
In his opening speech, the state program coordinator, FGN IFAD VCDP, Mr. Nnamdi Agwuncha, described the capacity building workshop as a follow up to the recently disbursed input to farmers by IFAD to inculcate new inventions and avoid mistakes.
On Anambra State’s yearning for regenerative agriculture, Mr. Agwuncha assured the readiness of IFAD VCDP, not to deviate from the state government’s interest in promoting organic agriculture.
Speaking, the IFAD VCDP Consultant, Dr. Micheal Nasamu, disclosed that they were contracted to build the capacity of dry season Rice farmers across the nine participating states to achieve food security and cushion the effects of last year’s flooding on farmers.
Dr Nasamu, while expressing joy that Anambra State has a good number of dry season farmers, advised them to embrace proper planning before field activities.
Contributing, the state Agric Production Officer, FGN IFAD VCDP, Mr. Emmanuel Chukwukwelu, unveiled that they have increased their demo plots for practical demonstrations of best ways to achieve good agricultural practices on Rice and Cassava farming.
From the participants, including Mr. Chibuzo Obiechina from Umueri, Mrs. Bridgeth Orji from Ufuma, and their counterpart from Ogbaru Council Area, Mr. Uzoma Njoku, the training workshop, worths more than they imagined calling for more of it.
Field visits, where participants were taken through the practical aspect of what they were though in the classroom, climaxed training workshop.
