Governor Chukwuma Soludo has suspended revenue collection from heavy duty loading and offloading in Anambra State to avoid double taxation and other issues.
Governor Soludo, who made the pronouncement during an interface with commercial vehicle operators and concessionaires at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre, Awka, explained that the reason was to enable government to return to drawing board and work out modalities to best enforce the revenue drive to avoid mix-up and reduce the burden on payers.
While noting that his government is concerned about the welfare of the common man, he assured of a tax system that will be progressive and simplified and reminded the concessionaires on every sector of the initial arrangement to operate on the existing tariff.
The governor, who said that the suspension was with immediate effect, asked the operators and public to report anyone going against the directive of the government for appropriate action.
Governor Soludo further warned that no wheelbarrow pusher, hawker or vulcanizer should be taxed anywhere in the state and thanked the operators for their dedication to the Anambra State Project, even as he promised more dividend of democracy, prudence and transparency as the chief servant of the state.
