Family members, friends and well-wishers have bid farewell to late Michael Tochukwu Okonkwo of Enu-Orji village Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Council Area.

 

The funeral ceremony of the deceased; who died at the age of thirty-four, commenced with a holy mass at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church, Enugwu-Ukwu; officiated by the Rector of Saint Johnbosco Seminary Isuaniocha, Reverend Father Jude Mokwe, before interment at his father’s compound.

In a homily during the Eucharistic celebration, Reverend Father Ekene Eduzor described the deceased as a responsible gentleman, and charged Christians to be steadfast in their journey to eternal life, even as he encouraged those affected by the death to bear the loss with fortitude, having hope in the promise of resurrection.

 

Acknowledging that the deceased was a respected,hardworking and promising young man, the Zenith Labour Party candidate for Anaocha, Njikoka and Dunukofia Federal Constituency, Barrister Valentine Anyika said his death is a great loss to the entire Enugwu- Ukwu community, and called on youths to be good ambassadors wherever they are.

In their separate speeches, brothers and relatives of the deceased, Sir Anthony, Messrs Paul and Obum Okonkwo said their late brother was a peace maker, adding that his passion for humanity and charity were exemplary.

 

For his 2008 set of classmates at Community Secondary School Umuokpu, including Comrade Chinedu Nwana, the death of Tochukwu, popularly known as “Onowu na Ghana”, has left indelible marks in their hearts, praying God to grant the Okonkwo family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Mr. Onyekachukwu Ugochukwu of ABS led a delegation of staff of Programmes Department of the establishment on a condolence to the family.
