Communities in Anambra State have been urged to support the new land administration policy of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s government.

Speaking in Awka, the Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene said the reformation would strengthen land use and management. Paul Ezeoke reports that

Chief Okeke regretted that many youths in Anambra State and Igboland are today involved in selling of their inheritance and birthright without considering the future consequences on the families and future generations, noting that they were able to inherit the land because their fathers and forefathers made conscious efforts and sacrifices to protect and preserve them.

He said Igbo culture and tradition do not encourage people to dispose their land and become tenants in their inheritance, and expressed worry that some youths sometimes sell one piece of land to many buyers or even sell land that does not belong to them, leading to conflict and unending litigations.

Chief Okeke-Ogene enjoined communities to put in place necessary laws that would make it mandatory for traditional rulers and town union executives to approve and record sale of any land in their communities to end land racketeering and attendant consequences.

Also speaking, the State Chairman of Miners Association of Nigeria, Chief Henry Igboeli said the Governor’s approach to land administration and use would ensure effective harnessing of land resources across the state, as well as discourage exploitation and excesses.

Chief Igboeli, who is also the National Patron and member Board of Trustees of Anambra Demand for Soludo, expressed confidence that as the leader of APGA; Governor Soludo would bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to further strengthen the party to expand and set pace for others.

He urged youths to take advantage of the various empowerment programmes initiated by the state government to become self-reliant and build a better future for themselves.
