Youth Partnership for African Development (YOUPAD) has conferred Thomas Sankara prize for literature as Pan African Icon of health renaissance on the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, Dr. Joe Akabuike.

 

YOUPAD is an organization saddled with the responsibility of building the youth in leadership and entrepreneurship with the purpose of providing Africa with intellectually equiped youths to take the mantle of leadership so as to build an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa.

Presenting the award to Dr. Akabuike, the president of the association, Mr. Coulibally bn Hammeid from Ivory Coast who spoke in French said they honour Africans whose lives are in tandem with what Thomas Sankara believed in and lived for.

 

Translating the President’s French address, the Nigeria Coordinator, Mr. Henry Nwankwo explained that they recognized Dr. Akabuike for his hard work and dedication to national development characterized by integrity, prudence, human capital development, open door policy, charity to the less privileged, and dedicated service to God and society at large.

Receiving the award, Dr. Akabuike who was delighted with the honour, encouraged them to keep up their good work and ensure that they build youths that are ready to take up leadership positions in the present dispensation, rather than youths of tomorrow.

 

Dr Akabuike dedicated the award to the management and staff of hospital, the Anambra State Government and people of the state.

In a vote of thanks, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Council of the hospital, Dr. Obinna Mbah who thanked YOUPAD for recognizing the CMD, described Dr. Akabuike as a pacesetter who has transformed the hospital both in infrastructural development and efficient service delivery within the short period of his assumption of office.

 

Presentation of the award to Dr. Akabuike climaxed the event.
