Holy Ghost Juniorate Ihiala has won the inter school debate competition organized by the minor seminary to mark the beginning of her seventieth anniversary.

 

Holy Ghost Juniorate scored nine hundred and eighty- seven point five to take the first position in a keenly contested debate competition on topical issues among selected Catholic schools in Anambra state and beyond.

Saint Paul’s Seminary Ukpor came second with nine hundred and eighty- two points while Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Umuoji took the third position with nine hundred and seventy-two points.

 

Father Philip Agu Spiritan Academy, Akabor clinched the fourth position with nine hundred and sixty-nine points.

All Hallows Seminary, Onitsha took the fifth position with nine hundred and sixty-three points, Holy Ghost Academy, Amaokpala came sixth with nine hundred and forty-six points while Dominican Sisters College, Abatete took the seventh position with nine hundred and four points.

 

The overall best speaker in the debate competition went to Chukwudi Esighasim of Holy Ghost Juniorate Ihiala, Joshua Nani from Father Philip Agu Spiritan Academy won the second-best speaker while Chikamso Nwafor of Mater Amabilis Secondary school, Umuoji took the third position.

Speaking to the ABS, the Provincial Superior Holy Ghost Congregation, Nigeria Southeast, Reverend Father Austin Nwosu, disclosed that Holy Ghost Juniorate Ihiala has produced over eighty percent of Reverend fathers and brothers working around the world adding that the seventieth anniversary will gather all the Holy Ghost fathers in Southeast Nigeria adding that it is a thing of joy coming back to their Alma Mater.

 

Reverend Father Nwosu noted that seminaries and churches have a role to play in remodeling, and inculcating values that will help in transforming the youths, charging the students to study hard and allow the formation to pass through them.

The former first Assistant Superior General of Holy Ghost Congregation , Reverend Father Professor Bede Ukwuije in a summary of his homily titled “Send Forth Your Spirit And Renew The Face Of The Earth” during the holy mass which ushered in the debate competition, reminded the assembly that the Holy Ghost fathers and brothers established the Holy Ghost Juniorate Ihiala in 1953 in order to contribute to the renewal of the face of the earth called on the young people from different places to donate themselves for the proclamation of good news of dignity of humanity.

 

Earlier in a welcome address, the rector of Holy Ghost Juniorate Ihiala, Reverend Father Malachy Eleanya said the school does not compromise on academics hence the inter- school debate competition was used to mark the beginning of their great anniversary.

The event was graced by parents, priests, teachers from different schools including Anambra state commissioner for education, Professor Ngozi Chuma- Udeh represented by Mrs Onyinye Dike.

 

Expressions of gratitude also came from the students who won in the debate competition.

 

The debate competition reports that prizes and certificate were given to the winners and students who participated in the debate, presentation to the Provincial Superior by the Holy Ghost Juniorate community, traditional dances by Immaculate Girls Secondary school, Nnewi and Abbot Girls, Ihiala among others.
