The Nigeria Immigration Service, says it will introduce technology in its border management and surveillance services to monitor activities at the territorial borders of the country.

The Comptroller-General of the Service, Mr Idris Jere, who disclosed this in Abuja, during a one-day retreat for State Comptrollers in preparation for the 2023 general elections, said the Service intercepted six thousand two hundred and sixteen voter cards, National Identity cards from foreigners.

According to him, the Voter Cards and National Identity Cards were intercepted from border Communities in twenty-one States of the Federation.

Mr Jere, while speaking on the preparedness of the Nigeria Immigration Service for the forthcoming election, urged Personnel of the Agency to protect the Country’s territorial borders so as to make it impossible for non-Nigerians to vote during the election.

He noted that the general election is an opportunity for the Service to showcase its proficiency in border Management and intelligence gathering experiences.

Mr Jere, while commending Comptrollers of various Commands of the Service for their role in ensuring that irregular migrants are eased out of the Country called on Personnel of the Service to see the election period as a time for more consciousness and highest level of security awareness.

He emphasized that any act of compromise from personnel, would be treated as sabotage against national security.

The Comptroller-General who exhibited the confiscated documents said the Nigeria Immigration Service has reached out to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and National Identity Card Management Commission, to expunge the details of the imposters from their data banks.

He informed that borders are usually closed during elections to avoid infiltration by foreigners that may cause interruptions which could destabilize the electoral process.
