As Nigeria’s general elections approach fast, it is incumbent on us all to get up and doing by actively participating in the electoral process which is our civic right as Nigerians. As citizens who are patriotic to the national cause, we should gear up to exercise this right.

For a couple of years now, virtually most citizens in the country have been under intense hardship which is directly related to bad governance. Now is the time to register our displeasure and let our votes speak. We cannot just sit in a place and lick our wounds, we need to be actively involved in this transition and, effect a positive change in our nation

To achieve this, we all have to develop a positive attitude towards voting during the forthcoming elections, and also believe that the current state of our nation can be salvaged if the right people are elected. Nigerians must do away with personal interests and fight for the survival and redemption of the country

To get it right, we have to eschew violence and acts that are capable of undermining the electoral process. We should regard it as a civic duty to pick up our voter cards which serve as our electoral power. We should socially engineer our compatriots to do same as this process will help stamp our authority and create a strong electoral institution

Our utterances at these times may lead to loss of innocent lives, therefore, we should guard our utterances and acts that are capable of causing public tension or inciting violence.

The security agencies should maintain the highest level of professionalism in handling issues at this period. They should be as neutral as possible, and as a matte

of urgent national interest remove selfish interest in their dealings. The security situation in the nation is already very disturbing and adequate care should be applied in order not to spark crise

Same goes to the electoral umpire saddled with making this democratic change happen. INEC should respect the decision of the electorates and stay neutral.

Finally, the candidates that are slugging it out in the election should imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship. They should know that they are in the race to find the best possible options to fix our nation. Therefore, the ones that will be successful in the election should do so with magnanimity while the others should wait for another time. If, however, those that lose out are planning to make the country ungovernable, that implies that they actually have no good intentions for our nation and as such need to go and have a rethink.

The forthcoming elections are critical to the existence of Nigeria. We, therefore, look forward to a better Nigeria after the upcoming polls.
