It was a sporting event as Bishop Crowther Seminary, Awka holds her annual Inter-House Sports competition.

 

The exercise was to facilitate holistic mental and physical development through acquisition of different life skills, engender positive adult and peer relationship as well as focused on learning.

This year’s edition which marks the thirtieth has as its theme ‘Unveiling Great Potential Through Sports’.

 

Amaka Chibuzor-Okoye reports that the event held at the school field was attended by other Seminary and mission schools as well as convents and featured relay races, athletics, march pass, shot put, javelin, football match and others.

In an address of welcome, the Principal of the school, Venerable Dr Nnamdi Emendu said that they encourage creativity, ability to think and create something new, noting that sports and bodily exercise play great roles in mental alertness which enhances the academic excellence students .

 

Venerable Emendu disclosed that this year’s theme aimed at encouraging their students to become lead agents in providing holistic development of their people as well as improving their performance in competitive sports and build attitudes to pursue a physically active lifestyle.

In a goodwill message, the Vice Chairman, Parents Teachers Association of the school, Mr. Ajuluchukwu Igwe praised the management and staff of the school for directing, reshaping and instilling good morals in the life of their wards, noting that sports will improve their physical capabilities.

 

Speaking shortly after the exercise, a parent, Sir Amechi Ejiogu said that the school sets standards in all aspects of academics, noting that their pedigree is second to none in molding , nurturing and giving sound academic training to students.

On behalf of the Old Boys Association of the school, Venerable Chimdiebele Enukora said that Bishop Crowther has produced prominent scholars and other vibrant men, stating that the school is a better place to mold and nurture children for a brighter future.

 

Echendu House which has Mr. Benjamin Echendu as patron took the overall first position, followed by Obi House which has Venerable Dr Kamto Obi as patron while Etiaba House with Mr Echezona Etiaba, SAN as patron took the overall third position.
