The Economic Community Of West African States has sent its delegation led by the former President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma to observe Nigeria’s Election.

 

The Observers Mission pledged its unalloyed support to the democratic governance in Nigeria during a visit to Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

 

Mr. Bai Koroma noted that Nigeria plays a vital role in the comity of nations, which necessitated the deployment of two hundred and fifty observers to observe the process.

 

According to him, they aim to ensure that all players in the electioneering process act within the framework of the law.

 

Welcoming the delegations from the ECOWAS and Commonwealth Mission, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Onyeama noted that President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration has over the years, positioned the nation for a transparent election, noting that with the presence of Commonwealth, the country stands firm in its accountability mantra.

 

The Commonwealth Secretary-General, Patricia Scotland, said that they believe Nigeria has significantly improved the economy of the sub-region as well as contributed positively to the political stability of many troubled countries, and as such, guarantees a free, fair, and credible election.
