The people of Ifite Ogwari in Anyamelum Local Government Area was recently thrown into a festive mood as their traditional ruler, Igwe Alphonsus Ofuebe inaugurated fifty six new cabinet chiefs and conferred chieftaincy titles to three illustrious indigenes of the community.
The occasion came with it the display of the rich cultural heritage of the community.
The ceremony held at the palace of the traditional ruler started with the arrival of the cabinet members who dressed in white chieftaincy regalia with red caps, danced along with other prominent sons and well-wishers and paid homage to the king.
The appearance of the Igwe, his wife, entourage and Ijele masquerade marked the official beginning of the event.
In his speech on the occasion, Igwe Ofuebe, said that the choice of having a new cabinet was very important for the progress and development of the community as the former cabinet members were dissolved due to some questionable characters.
Adding that the community supported and approved the installation of the new ones, the monarch extolled the new council members and also called on them to always be of good behaviour, truthful, honest and uphold the peace and unity of the town for its growth and development.
The Palace Secretary, Chief Oliver Nweke, explained that what led to the inauguration of the new cabinet members from the five villages in the community, was that four out of other former cabinet members felt that they were above the authority of the royalty and committed a lot of questionable things , which led the community to relieve them of their positions.
He expressed optimism that the new cabinet members will put in their best and avoid a repeat of what happened in the past.
In their reactions, the Youth President of the community, Mr. Stephen Ezemokwe and a member of the Youth Caretaker of the community, Mr. Chinedu Ekwunife, said that the inauguration is a new dawn for the community and appealed to the new cabinet Chiefs to make effective rules and laws that will champion progress of the community.
In appreciation, the newly inaugurated traditional Prime Minister, Chief Simeon Nweke who spoke on behalf of others said that their new positions are divinely made and pledged to work for the community wholeheartedly.
One of those conferred with chieftaincy titles, Chief Mrs. Nkiru Chika, thanked the Igwe for the honour and promised to contribute to the growth of the town.
