Before the coming of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Anambra State had witnessed many successive administrations that tried their lots to make the state great. However, the Soludo administration stands out with its style of governance and determination to enthrone disruptive thinking in government business. Beginning immediately after he was sworn on March 17, 2022, Governor Soludo pursued his vision for a new Anambra with vigour.

One of the sectors that received his immediate attention was the road crisis in the state. Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, and many other communities were filled with failed roads and following his understanding of the importance an average Anambra person places on roads, the Governor had to begin his Solution agenda by declaring state of emergency on our roads. He would always say that if you asked an average Onye Anambra of his or her problem for three times, the answer would be “road, road, road”.

Governor Soludo couldn’t wait for the rainy season to end last year and began to award many roads for construction. In the 2022 revised budget, Governor Soludo targeted 220 kilometers of roads across the state in the first phase of road constructions. It has, however, shut above this number with 41 kilometers of road, putting the number now at 261 kilometers of roads currently undergoing construction across the state.

In fact, as at today, Governor Soludo has awarded road construction works in every local government area in Anambra State, while many others are being rehabilitated. Some of the roads under construction include the nine urban roads in Okpoko, Ogbaru local government area that accounted to nearly fifteen kilometers. Others are Mmiata-Anam-Nzam road in Anambra West, Amansea-Awba-Ofemili road in Awka North Local Government Area that is targeted to later reach Omor in Ayamelum Local Government Area. Ufuma-Amansea road, traversing Orumba North and Awka North Local Government Areas and Akpaka road in Onitsha metropolis.

Atani-Ozubulu road linking Ogbaru and Ekwusigo and Ozubulu-Ihembosi-Ukpor road connecting Ekwusigo and Nnewi South local government areas. In Awka, the state capital territory, there are the UNIZIK-Okpuno- Isuaniocha, NECO, Roban, Regina Caeli, Club, and Umuogbu roads all at different levels of completion.

There are also the Abagana-Nimo road in Njikoka local government area, Igwe Ezechi Okoye Road in Dunukofia Local Government area, Akwaeze-Adazi-Enu-Nnokwa road running through Anaocha and Idemili South local government areas and Isi Udala Ifite-Ogwari road in Ayamelum local government area.

In Idemili North, Ugwuagba-Mgbuka, Obosi road is also undergoing reconstruction while in Ihiala local government area, it is the Savinovo-Umuofor-Bright Street -Umuhu-Ubahuezike Road, in Okija. In Nnewi North local government area, the Okpuneze-Nnewi hotel road and Isaho to Teaching Hospital road are under construction. Orumba North and Aguata council areas also got the Nanka-Isuofia road while the Ezira-Umuomaku-Enugwu-Umuonyia-Achina road currently under construction traverses Orumba South and Aguata local government area.

Nnobi-Awka-Etiti-Igbo-Ukwu-Isuofia road, Mmili John road, Inland Doors road and many other federal roads are also being rehabilitated.

Already, the Nza Ozubulu-Ukpor road has been completed and with Governor Soludo’s special interest in the development of Okpoko, its over one million residents will soon be liberated from what has been described as one of Nigeria’s largest urban slums. Also, Nzam, Anambra West local government headquarters, the only local government headquarters with no access road will soon be motorable.

Anambra is truly a one massive construction site and the road crisis facing the state will soon become a thing of the past with the strategic construction of roads by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo led administration.

Anambra is truly a one massive construction site and the road crisis facing the state will soon become a thing of the past with the strategic construction of roads by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo led administration.

One unique thing about these roads is that they are guaranteed to last for at least 20 year

This very significant milestone in the road sector did not stop Governor Soludo from paying attention to the education, health, agriculture, human capital development and power sectors and other sub-sectors. Ndi Anambra will in no distant time count their blessings one after another as the man with the midas touch has ascended the throne. The holy Bible was, indeed, right when it said in the book of Proverbs chapter 29 versus 2 that “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice….
