The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige has expressed satisfaction with the quality of work on the ongoing rehabilitation of Ezigbo river culvert Abatete.
Dr Ngige stated this shortly after inspecting work at the area.
Works Correspondent Ngozi Obileri covered the inspection visit and reports that the culvert is being upgraded to a bridge.
Dr Ngige, a one-time Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria said that the work being handled by, Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA was expected to be completed this month but for some unforeseen circumstances.
Dr Ngige noted that changing the culvert to a bridge became necessary due to the volume of flood that passes through the culvert from neighboring communities as the bridge which connects Alor community his home town and Abatete is very strategic to the socio-economic development of the area.
He urged the contractor to speed up the job to guarantee its completion in two months time.
On the Presidential and National Assembly election, the Minister said he likened the turn out to that of 1993 election that produced the then MKO Abiola, commending people of the area for coming out in their numbers to cast their vote.
He however faulted INEC’s late distribution of material which according to him, delayed voting process in the area.
