The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Mr. Ossy Onuko says the Agency can no longer tolerate any form of roadside trading within the capital territory.
Mr. Onuko made this known while inspecting the barricade mounted at Eke Awka market to prevent traders from displaying their goods along the busy road.
Mr. Onuko who frowned at the level at which traders display their goods recklessly along many roads within the city, said that the agency will not allow the ugly behaviour to continue.
The ACTDA boss noted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration is doing everything humanly possible to redesign most of the major markets in the state to reach international standards in order to accommodate all types of traders, have enough parking space to end roadside parking of vehicles as well as have acceptable convenience rooms.
Mr. Onuko regretted the loss of time and hardship motorists go through on daily basis because of the traders blocking Eke Awka axis of Zik Avenue and warned that anybody caught flouting the new order would be severely dealt with.
He called on the authorities of the market to ensure that their members abide by all the rules and regulations guiding the market, so that commuters and people coming to do business at the market will not be having nightmares because of the gridlock being caused by some of them.
According to the ACTDA Managing Director, the agency will continue to discharge its mandate with utmost rigour and commended Governor Soludo for his numerous developmental strides across all sectors of the Anambra economy.
Mr. Onuko further called on developers and builders in the capital territory to always visit the headquarters of the agency in Awka, to get the right and relevant approvals before commencing any construction to avoid building in unapproved areas.
