The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, has charged women to remain consistent in their role of building a united families and peaceful society.

Dr Ibezim gave the charge at St Lawrence Church, Mbaukwu while felicitating with Mothers in the Anglican Communion on their celebration of Mothering Sunday.

He said Jesus Christ first showed himself to a woman after resurrection which shows the importance he placed on the role of women in the Church.

He said mothers are the light that brightens the society and society’s hope of transformation and peace, and asked them to always keep praying for the government.

The Archdeacon of Mbaukwu Archdeaconry and Vicar of St Lawrence Church Mbaukwu, Ven. Nehemiah Ugoagu, said mothers are being celebrated because of the active role they are playing in the church and in the society, noting that God blessed them with patience and endurance while praying that God gives them long life to enjoy the fruit of their labour.

The Vice President, Mothers Union, Mbaukwu Archdeaconry, Mrs. Ada Ugoagu, maintained that the celebration reminds mothers that God expects them to be godly and wise and should guard, guide and protect their wards, husbands and people around them as they were entrusted on them to cater for by God.

Special prayers, thanksgiving and other side attractions added glamour to the service.
