Special services were yesterday held across Anglican Churches nationwide to celebrate the 2023 Mothering Sunday.

 

The services, which put women in a joyous mood as they took center stage in church activities, including pastors and peoples’ warden, prayer conductor, bible reading and many others while they adorned different Anglican Uniforms according to their organisations in the church.

In a sermon, the Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, the Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, who congratulated them, recalled their enormous roles and contributions in their families and society, and charged them to live up to the responsibilities of upholding the true virtues of motherhood and child upbringing.

 

In her address centered on the theme of the 2023 Mothering Sunday, ‘You Shall Eat the Fruit of Your Labour’, the President, Mother’s Union, Women’s Guild, Girls Guild and Young Wives Fellowship, Province of the Niger and Diocese of Awka, Mrs. Chioma Ibezim, assured mothers that there are better rewards coming for their labour.

She urged mothers, who have labored for their husbands, children, families and the church not to give up or accept defeat for any reason but to look up to God as the author and finisher of their faith.

 

The Archdeacon, Awka Archdeaconry and Vicar of All Saint Church Amenyi, Venerable David Ezeobi, described mothers as unique people in the society, challenging them to be focused, dedicated and prayerful.

In their separate speeches, the Vice President, Mother’s Union, Mrs. Ifeoma Ezeobi and Mrs. Ebelechukwu Emendu, thanked God for the gift of motherhood stating that they are special species with enormous tasks, advising mothers to live out the good virtues embedded in them by God.

 

The wife of the Resident Priest, St. Philip’s Church Umuodu, Okpuno, Mrs. Blessing Onochie and the chairperson, Local Organizing Committee of the 2023 Mothering Sunday, Mrs. Comfort Orakwelu, advised mothers to raise and nurture their children in godly ways, respect their husbands and assist in building a God-fearing home.
