Special Mass was celebrated in Catholic parishes yesterday to commemorate the 2023 Mothering Sunday of the Catholic women.
The women adorned in their Catholic Women Organization uniform praised and gave thanks to God for His grace upon them and the gift of motherhood.
They participated in the activities of the mass reflecting the roles played by the Virgin Mary their role model.
In a homily at Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish, GRA Awka, a visiting priest, Reverend Father Anthony Nwosu said God made women the crown of the noting that their activities to groom, mould and nurture children are multi- tasking.
Reverend Father Nwosu called for love and care for the women as according to him their generosity and love for their husbands and wards are second to none, urging their husbands to love them according to the scripture while children should respect and adore them.
Also, at the Chapel of Good Shepard, Pastoral Retreat Center, Okpuno, a visiting priest, Reverend Father Constant Okoye described mothers as patience, enduring, loving and sacrificing all for the good of the family encouraging them to remain focused and hopeful in the face of tribulations and temptations and should have faith in God who gives comfort and solution to all.
Felicitating with the Catholic Women, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh thanked God for his special gift of motherhood which is a divine call and vocation, advising all mothers to venture into the new trend of child upbringing, where they will play the role of a friend, mother and companion.
For former Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Lady Chinwe Nnedum, mothers are peculiar and entrusted with much responsibilities which they normally do at ease and should therefore be respected and loved.
The President, Catholic Women Organization, Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish, GRA, Awka, Lady Obioma Afugbuem encouraged mothers to be strong, focused and live a life of prayers just as Mother Mary and never fail in their primary role.
Special prayers, thanksgiving and other side attractions climaxed the Mass.
