The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, has issued Certificate of Return to thirty members elect at the March 18 House of Assembly election.

 

The certificate presentation ceremony took place at the INEC headquarters, Awka.

The event and reports that the collation hall of the INEC headquarters, Awka was filled to its capacity as friends and well-wishers of the members elect trooped out in their numbers to give them support and solidarity for emerging victorious at the polls.

 

Addressing the people, the INEC National Commissioner supervising Anambra state, Barrister Festus Okoye, said as contained in section Seventy-two, subsection One of the electoral acts, that House of Assembly members elect be issued certificate of return two weeks after the election, the Commission is fulfilling that part of the law by issuing certificates to the members elect in Anambra state.

Barrister Okoye reminded them of the need to defend the democracy in Nigeria and not to allow anyone no matter how highly placed to disrupt the democracy in the country as according to him, even developed countries are still struggling to improve on their democracy just like Nigeria, urging the members elect to always make laws that will improve the welfare of their constituents.

Earlier, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra state, Dr Queen-Elizabeth Agwu while appreciating God that they did not lose a soul in the election, equally appreciated INEC chairman Professor Mammud Yakubu for giving them a level playing ground and thanked Ndi Anambra for their support and encouragement, adding that she was proud that she has fulfilled her promise of conducting free, fair and credible election in Anambra.

In their various reactions, the members elect for Ihiala Two Constituency Honourable Golden Iloh, his Idemili South constituency counterpart Honourable Emeka Igwe, that of Njikoka One constituency , Honourable Chidi Ibemeka, the member representing Anaocha Two at the Anambra state House of Assembly, and also a member elect for the same constituency, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu, the member representing Anambra West Constituency Honourable Obalim Udoba, also a member elect for the same constituency, all candidates of APGA, Nkechi Ogbuefi of Labour Party, a member elect for Anaocha One constituency and the only female law maker in the eighth Assembly thanked their constituents for the confidence they reposed in them and pledged to do all within their powers to enact laws that will improve their welfare.
